Hi :)
It's been a long time since I posted something but that doesn't mean i been idle all this time ;)
I'we been working hard for my friends from Kromlech. Painting bits for that company has been taking most of my time lately.

Miniature Review - Space Wolves Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf
Time for some finecast review. Wolf lord on Thunderwolf is a model i been looking forward to since releasing the Space Wolves Codex, although we had an option to buy and convert our Wolf lord from Canis Wolfborn Special Character a piece that allows to build custom character was something yet to be seen.
So first things first. New Wolf lord model is a Citadel Finecast model and actually it's my first encounter with this range of citadel resin models, I had pleasure to work wit some forge world stuff before and had quite an expectations concerning quality.
So the box contains 5 resin sprues, judging from the shape it's so called second generation of Finecasts with improved quality
Here are some close up's of individual sprues
So now that we all had an overall look time to see some of the major flaws
Wolf Head is build up from 2 elements that fit nice and close to each other leaving hardly any gap between but are with some big moulding lines.
To sum up this review, model is fantastic I'm a great fan of the Space Wolves and been waiting for it a long time. Although it has more than a few flaws. Main is moulding lines I'm places that need to be smooth or have detail ( fur, power armor) second is bubbles there are less then in previous generation of Finecasts but still it renders some part unusable - take a closer look at the back pack (exhaust vanes)
Overall its a great model with fantastic atmosphere suiting space wolves perfectly ( love the face :)), pity it lacks other options to equip your Wolf Lord but as a gamer you'll definitively have some leftovers from grey hunter or terminator kit that may be useful in converting this lad. I equipped mine with thunder hammer and changed backpack as one in the set needed all too much work to make him usable.
GW states that finecast will get better in time, i can say that for a new product they are quite expensive and still imperfect overall 6/10 from me

Dark Eldar Face Tutorial
In this tutorial i will show a quick and effective way to paint Dark eldar face
So first things first
Here is a little black and white photo showing where the higlights and shades will be
And here is black and white photo of finished head for comparison
So main points of highlights are nose, cheek bones eyebrow and chin. Eldar have very sharp faces so we can make strong contrast and sharp lines to reflect this.
So lets get started. We spray the head using chaos black spray.
Then we undercoat the whole face using mix of 1/3 mix of bestial brown an elf flesh. Make paint quite dense and apply it in in even layers until achieving strong base color ( this may require one or more layers pending on how diluted your paint was), this is the most important part of painting so don't be hasty. There is no need to be extra precise if u paint over eyes it ok we can fix that later.
Second step is applying shades this process may take 3-6 layers of glazing
We are using scorched brown diluted 1/3 with water and applying shades directly under cheek bones into the eye sockets and in the upper parts of the forehead
We consequently add more black to the mix building even deeper shading ( remember we are building strong contrast so strongest shades will be directly below strongest highlights)
Next step is building our highlights we start with applying mix of elf flesh and komando khaki 1/1 on to all areas that we want to build highlights on leaving the base color in recesses
Then we add more white to the mix building the highlights towards the points mentioned at the beginning, making it almost pure white at the edges of eyebrows, tip of the nose and cheekbones so that the white line lays directly above darkest shades.
Next step is adding some life to the face to do this we apply 3 glazes over the cheek bones and nose
we do first glaze using scab red gently washing to leave only small amount of pigment to just add that color to the prev painted area in transparent way.
Next we use liche purple over smaller area again in the way we used last glaze.
Final glaze is made using hawk turquoise this color we glazed in the mid tones to give him colder look.
Final stage is applying thin white lines on eyebrows cheek bones and nose and chin to give the face a little pop out as face is kind of a point of focus to the miniature at this stage we also paint eyes, its done by first undercoating them with black then painting eyes using pure white and fine brush and finally pupils using black and carefully placing dots (there is no real method on how to paint eyes, u just need a steady hand and a good pointy brush ah and a lot of practice)
Hope You like my tutorial and sorry for bad quality of the pics ... still don't have right photo gear to do this properly.

Midterms, music and a little WiP
There are still few midterm exams ahead of me so almost no time to paint these days..
Here is a piece of music that keeps me inspired. Really great soundtrack form THQ's game "Space Marine". Whole soundtrack is available on YouTube so check it if you like and maybe try a game it's a must for any space marine fan out there.
oh and a WiP of a Wight King ( model will be painted 'eavy metal style so expect clean and sharp painting on it)

Miniature Review - Vampire Counts Wight King
Hi !
Its time to review some miniatures :) First is Games Workshop Wight King model from new Vampire Counts army that was released last month. Wight King is a new addition to the army or more like a reebot af a wight lord that we have seen so far but finally with a decent model to fit new grave guard and skeleton design.
First of all model is sold in a blister so that we can chance a closer look at the model before buying it model is made from plastic and sadly dose not contain any options to customize. Inside we can find assemble guide and one plastic sprue containing all pieces of model.
Click on the image above to see bigger high res pics
As you can see model is made from high quality plastic and has all the great details that GW has accustom us to. Sword and cloak are nice and thin and also highly durable when bending
Main flaw of the miniature is that right foot of the model is placed on the base so if you are fan of building your own bases or just want to have something different like placing him on diorama that the problem you would have to deal with.
As I said before you have absolutely no options to customize your model it comes with sword and shield and you have to cut model to swap parts as arm with sword is the same piece as part of the cloak. That's really a pity that GW is heading straight to what they been diverting for last few years and again to the armies of clones that every army looks the same
Big disappointment after such pieces like Empire Mage set that gave options to fully customize your wizzard.
Parts fit closely to each other leaving some minor spaces between them (cloak, crown), model is almost free from mold lines.
To sum up Wight King is a solid sculpt with great details and wonderful atmosphere , the only flaw is that foot is sculpted onto the base so overall 7/10

Paint Brush Review - Winsor & Newton Series 7
I decided to write a little review of brushes that I use almost exclusively for more than three and a half years now.
Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes are made from finest Kolinsky Sable hair. I prefer using brushes with shorter hairs so that I have more brush control
They are highly durable brushes that keep their "pointiness" for extremely long time, actually during my years of painting with them I never had to change brush cause of it loosing hair or because it was no longer able to be used to paint small details. If handled properly W&N brushes easily endure more than a year of painting.
Remember that brushes with natural hair like W&N are only to paint using water colors as oil paints can easily destroy the brush.
Finally the brushes from W&N are fairy expensive but you are paying for quality and durability
0 size brushes that I use cost about 15$ pending on place that you buy them.
Here it a link the the official website of Winsor & Newton

Midnight Sky
Hi, this is my version of Deathmaster Snikch. I made minor conversion by removing corps that he was standing on to better fit that base that i had in mind. it was quite a delicate process that took my about 2 hour so that i wouldn't damage his paws.
The whole scene is an idea that Deathmaster is sneaking into garden at night on his way to the castle to assassinate some powerful imperial noble. The base was build to resemble old scary neglected garden with dead trees and cracked pavement covered in moss.
as you can see i added some source lighting effect from warpstone shards he is carrying, and from elven waystone and i tried to emulate the liquid effect on poison that's dripping of his blades.
You can see more pics here
Hope You like Him

Daith

Kommando Nob
Quite quick paint job for ebay
I replaced Nobs power claw arm and backpack, originally he was carrying grot around and i think that idea of ork carrying a grot on his back is wrong :P it should be the other way around. So i replaced it with a forge world backpack, more fitting in my mind and replaced arm with that of a plastic nob.
You can find more pics in here
hope You guys like it

Happy New Year 2012
First of all i would like to wish You happy New Year, may it bring joy and happiness to all of You.
Many things happened in past year, mainly sad that made me think about life in quite a different style. Pursuit to fill out the emptiness inside led me into many weird places and decisions, but in all of this painting gave me a way to cut my self of these problems just for a while. Peace, tranquility and focusing on one of these few things in the world that i like made me realize that painting is not just a hobby it became like a way of life something that makes me happy.
That realization made me apply for eavy metal team. I managed to make my way to the final stage of recruitment and was invited to Nottingham for few days to meet all the crew and workers and for a painting session with eavy metal members. I must say that it was a great experience people that work there are so friendly and also that was my dream to find myself among them. Unfortunately my painting is't good enough to be one of them yet but i received some positive feedback from Brokenblade and other members and few tips that will help me in future. Not to mention all the miniatures and top secret things that i saw there :P
The whole trip was great, it was my first flight and to foreign country and all by my own, wonderful experience, made me feel so free :)
Can't help myself to wonder how my life would have been if i got that job...
There are some works that i would like to share with You some old some newer that i made but never published on blog
Latest one and still a WiP is a model that i bought during my trip to Nottingham
Khorn Lord
Second is Nurgle Marine that i made 4th place on Hussar painting competition in November
Click here to see pics on CoolMiniorNot
next one is Aquarius, this model was an experiment, i painted it following tips from Camelson and trying to replicate his style
You can find more photos in here
Last but not least i would like to thanks Camelson, Smok and Avalanche for being with me and cheering me up all this time.
I would like also to thank Solmar and Colonel Shofer for nice comments on my recent post they really made me into thinking.
Hope this New Year will be good for all of us !
Stay tuned for more updates in future.
