Miniature Review - Vampire Counts Wight King

Hi !
Its time to review some miniatures :) First is Games Workshop Wight King model from new Vampire Counts army that was released last month. Wight King is a new addition to the army or more like a reebot af a wight lord that we have seen so far but finally with a decent model to fit new grave guard and skeleton design.

First of all model is sold in a blister so that we can chance a closer look at the model before buying it model is made from plastic and sadly dose not contain any options to customize. Inside we can find assemble guide and one plastic sprue containing all pieces of model.

Click on the image above to see bigger high res pics

As you can see model is made from high quality plastic and has all the great details that GW has accustom us to. Sword and cloak are nice and thin and also highly durable when bending
Main flaw of the miniature is that right foot of the model is placed on the base so if you are fan of building your own bases or just want to have something different like placing him on diorama that the problem you would have to deal with.

As I said before you have absolutely no options to customize your model it comes with sword and shield and you have to cut model to swap parts as arm with sword is the same piece as part of the cloak. That's really a pity that GW is heading straight to what they been diverting for last few years and again to the armies of clones that every army looks the same
Big disappointment after such pieces like Empire Mage set that gave options to fully customize your wizzard.

Parts fit closely to each other leaving some minor spaces between them (cloak, crown), model is almost free from mold lines.

To sum up Wight King is a solid sculpt with great details and wonderful atmosphere , the only flaw is that foot is sculpted onto the base so overall 7/10

Paint Brush Review - Winsor & Newton Series 7

I decided to write a little review of brushes that I use almost exclusively for more than three and a half years now.
Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes are made from finest Kolinsky Sable hair. I prefer using brushes with shorter hairs so that I have more brush control

They are highly durable brushes that keep their "pointiness" for extremely long time, actually during my years of painting with them I never had to change brush cause of it loosing hair or because it was no longer able to be used to paint small details. If handled properly W&N brushes easily endure more than a year of painting.

Remember that brushes with natural hair like W&N are only to paint using water colors as oil paints can easily destroy the brush.

Finally the brushes from W&N are fairy expensive but you are paying for quality and durability
0 size brushes that I use cost about 15$ pending on place that you buy them.

Midnight Sky

Hi, this is my version of Deathmaster Snikch. I made minor conversion by removing corps that he was standing on to better fit that base that i had in mind. it was quite a delicate process that took my about 2 hour so that i wouldn't damage his paws.
The whole scene is an idea that Deathmaster is sneaking into garden at night on his way to the castle to assassinate some powerful imperial noble. The base was build to resemble old scary neglected garden with dead trees and cracked pavement covered in moss.

as you can see i added some source lighting effect from warpstone shards he is carrying, and from elven waystone and i tried to emulate the liquid effect on poison that's dripping of his blades.

You can see more pics here

Hope You like Him

Daith

Kommando Nob

Quite quick paint job for ebay
I replaced Nobs power claw arm and backpack, originally he was carrying grot around and i think that idea of ork carrying a grot on his back is wrong :P it should be the other way around. So i replaced it with a forge world backpack, more fitting in my mind and replaced arm with that of a plastic nob.

hope You guys like it

Happy New Year 2012

First of all i would like to wish You happy New Year, may it bring joy and happiness to all of You.

Many things happened in past year, mainly sad that made me think about life in quite a different style. Pursuit to fill out the emptiness inside led me into many weird places and decisions, but in all of this painting gave me a way to cut my self of these problems just for a while. Peace, tranquility and focusing on one of these few things in the world that i like made me realize that painting is not just a hobby it became like a way of life something that makes me happy.
That realization made me apply for eavy metal team. I managed to make my way to the final stage of recruitment and was invited to Nottingham for few days to meet all the crew and workers and for a painting session with eavy metal members. I must say that it was a great experience people that work there are so friendly and also that was my dream to find myself among them. Unfortunately my painting is't good enough to be one of them yet but i received some positive feedback from Brokenblade and other members and few tips that will help me in future. Not to mention all the miniatures and top secret things that i saw there :P
The whole trip was great, it was my first flight and to foreign country and all by my own, wonderful experience, made me feel so free :)
Can't help myself to wonder how my life would have been if i got that job...

There are some works that i would like to share with You some old some newer that i made but never published on blog

Latest one and still a WiP is a model that i bought during my trip to Nottingham

Khorn Lord

Second is Nurgle Marine that i made 4th place on Hussar painting competition in November

Last but not least i would like to thanks Camelson, Smok and Avalanche for being with me and cheering me up all this time.
I would like also to thank Solmar and Colonel Shofer for nice comments on my recent post they really made me into thinking.

Hope this New Year will be good for all of us !

Stay tuned for more updates in future.
